Scammers Using Johnson County Sheriff’s Office
Olathe, Kan. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has issued an alert to residents of bogus phone calls where the caller claims to be from Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Several citizens have reported receiving phone calls threatening arrest for failure to appear for jury duty in Johnson County. Residents are warned by the caller, to give varying amounts of funds utilizing a Green Dot Money card or warrants will be issued for arrest. This scam appears to be targeting the elderly.
The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office has also had an assistant district attorney impersonated in a similar fashion for the same scam involving the accusation of failure to appear for jury duty.
The Sheriff’s Office procedure for contacting those with warrants does not include a demand for immediate bond payment. Anyone believing they have been a victim of the scam should contact the Sheriff’s Office or their local police department.
