Crime Lab Internships

COVID-19 Update

Last Update: Friday, May 15, at 8:30 am

At the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, people are our most important asset. We place a premium on the health and wellbeing of our staff as well as the community we serve. In order to help minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Criminalistics Laboratory Internship Program is currently on hold. While summer 2020 internships may still be offered, we cannot guarantee that at this time. If you need an internship for course credit, please do not rely on an internship with our laboratory. If you have already submitted an application, we will retain your application and disseminate information regarding upcoming internships as soon as possible. Please check back during this evolving situation for updates and we thank you for your understanding.

Internship Opportunities

The goal of our internship program is to provide mutual benefit for the intern and our lab, through original experiments, secondary research projects and/or general laboratory tasks. With this in mind, the weekly time commitment to the internship is flexible; however, internships within the academic year generally require a 10 hour minimum commitment while summer internships require a 30 hour minimum commitment.

Internship Posting Schedule

We appreciate your interest in an internship with our crime lab. Preference will be given to students that receive college credit for an internship or that have a potential project idea.  Internships at our laboratory are offered in accordance with the needs of the lab and are based on the following cycle:

Fall: October – December            Application Deadline: July 1st

Spring: February – April               Application Deadline: November 1st
